U.S. AZERIS NETWORK (USAN) ENDORSES JOHN MCCAIN FOR PRESIDENT IN 2008
John McCain is the choice of the Azerbaijani-Americans to lead USA

The U.S. Azeris Network (USAN) (www.USAzeris.org), is a registered
non-profit, non-partisan, non-sectarian genuine grassroots advocacy
and voter education network that is facilitating political activism
and efforts by the Azerbaijani-Americans and other Turkic-Americans
and their associations, organizations, councils, conferences, and
other formal, semi-formal and informal groups, on federal, state and
local levels. Through the auspices of the U.S. Azeris Network, the
voice of the Azerbaijani-Americans is becoming unified and
strengthened. USAN is the first nationwide grassroots organization
uniting Azerbaijani-Americans, conducting successful fundraisers and
being created by the grassroots, for the grassroots.

As a relatively new group of largely undecided and "swing" voters, the
up to 400,000 strong Azerbaijani-American community, concentrating
particularly in the states of California, New York, New Jersey and
Texas, together with other Turkic communities, presents a great
opportunity as a new force in grassroots activism and voting in U.S.
politics. It is why the USAN and its Executive Board has been
carefully considering and reviewing all presidential candidates and
their teams in the field, and gave its first-ever endorsement to John
McCain for U.S. President in 2008.

The reasons behind this choice were as follows:

1) The candidate had to possess ample professional experience in all
vital spheres of life, but particularly in international relations and
foreign affairs, energy and military security, campaign finance and
tax reforms. Based on his distinguished military service, long-time
Senate legislative activity, voting and reforms, John McCain is the
right person.

2) The candidate should offer a balance of welcome change but also
stable course and able stewardship, especially by building coalitions.
Campaign promises should be real and doable, with the ability to
fulfill majority of them during the presidential term. Based on Sen.
McCain's track record in the Senate, we believe he is that person.

3) The candidate should have a deep understanding and knowledge of the
South Caucasus, Caspian Basin and Former Soviet Union regions, as well
as the Middle East. In particular, the candidate should be well aware
about the issues and problems of the historic homeland of the
Azerbaijani-Americans, and it is preferred if the candidate has
actually traveled there as well as throughout the region. Sen. McCain
has been to both Azerbaijan and Turkey, among other regional states.

4) Commitment to justice and fairness, such as on issues of the
inherent right to self-defense by such states as Azerbaijan and
Turkey, the full applicability of the international law and its
founding principle of territorial integrity in resolving
ethno-territorial conflicts such as that of the Nagorno-Karabakh war,
and in unwavering refusal to recognize the events of 1915 as "Armenian
genocide". The candidate should also strongly support Euro-Atlantic
military, security and economic integration for Azerbaijan. Sen.
McCain has been steadfast on these issues.

5) The candidate should not favor any special interest and powerful
lobby groups over the national interests of the United States as well
as the wishes of other domestic constituency, should not depend on or
be tempted by the political contributions and votes of any of the
special interest and lobby groups. John McCain is exactly that person,
which truly makes him a political maverick.

The above brief summary shows the conviction, courage and competence
of John McCain, for which the U.S. Azeris Network gives him its
first-ever official endorsement for the President of the United States
in 2008. John McCain is the man to lead America – he is the choice of
the Azerbaijani-Americans to lead the country for the next four years.
The Azerbaijani-American community stands ready to help John McCain to
get elected, and will do its part to realize this goal of millions of
Americans.
