U.S. Azeris Network (USAN) welcomes President Obama's nomination of Matthew Bryza as the new Ambassador to Azerbaijan

Washington D.C. -- The U.S. Azeris Network (USAN) has welcomed President Barack Obama's May 25 announcement of his intent to nominate Matthew J. Bryza for the post of Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan. After almost a year-long vacancy of this very important position in Azerbaijan, as well as some sixty countries around the world, which has had a detrimental effect on the bilateral relations of the two strategic allies, there is now an expectation to see the relations between the two nations to expand and regain positive momentum.

Matthew J. Bryza is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and an expert on the Eurasian region. He currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of European and Eurasian Affairs. He previously served as the Director for Europe and Eurasia at the National Security Council in the White House. Mr. Bryza was also a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group. He was also Special Advisor to the President and Secretary of State on Caspian Basin Energy Diplomacy. Mr. Bryza has also served in Russia and Poland. Mr. Bryza received a B.A. from Stanford University and an M.A. in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

The U.S. Azeris Network (USAN) hopes the confirmation process in the Senate will proceed smoothly and Mr Bryza will be able to start performing his new duties as Ambassador to Azerbaijan, a key U.S. ally in the turbulent region of South Caucasus and Caspian Basin, this summer. USAN will prepare an Action Letter for all of its members to be able to contact their Senators and other relevant government officials and media, to express their support for a quick and positive decision, to confirm Matthew Bryza as the new Ambassador to Azerbaijan. USAN will remain actively seized on this matter, and looks forward to working with Mr. Bryza in his new capacity on all relevant issues concerning the U.S.-Azerbaijan relations and the Azerbaijani-Americans.
