List of Proclamations and other official citations
acquired by Azerbaijani-American members of USAN
A proclamation or citation is an official document usually issued by Mayors of Cities, City Councils or Governors of States on very special occasions. Over the years, the Azerbaijani-American community has received well over a hundred such proclamations. The partial list below showcases some of such proclamations acquired by the U.S. Azeris Network Board of Directors and USAN Activists, using USAN sample text. The typical text of such proclamations is similar to the following text (actual proclamation by the Governor of Wyoming, May 28, 2009), and always mention the Armenia-occupied Azerbaijani region of Karabakh, as well as the occupied town of Kerki in Naxcivan (which is well outside of the NK region); mentions the first Azerbaijan Republic (ADR) of 1918-1920, support for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty of by U.S.; the total area of Azerbaijan; the secularism of the predominantly Muslim nation; its historically democratic aspirations; the estimated size of the Azerbaijani population in the world, and other things. Some proclamations are longer and include more information about Azerbaijani military contributions in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo, its impressive economic performance, its refugees and IDPs, and other important agenda items.
AZERBAIJAN NATIONAL DAY
WHEREAS, the Republic of Azerbaijan was proclaimed on May 28, 1918,
stretching from the Caucasus mountains in the north to the Araxes river
in the south, Caspian Sea in the east to Kerki in the west, and became
the first secular Muslim parliamentary democratic republic in the
history of the world, and was recognized as such by other democratic
nations of the time, including the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, modern Republic Azerbaijan has an area of 33,440 square miles,
includes the exclave of Naxcivan and the Karabakh region, is situated in
the South Caucasus region, southeastern Europe; and
WHEREAS, the territorial integrity, state sovereignty and independence
of the Republic of Azerbaijan is supported by the United States; and
WHEREAS, every year for the last 91 years, an estimated 40 million
Azerbaijanis around the globe, observe May 28 as the National Day of
Azerbaijan and remember the contribution of their forefathers to the
spread of freedom and democracy in the Caucasus and the greater region;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GOVERNER DAVE FREUDENTHAL, Governor of Wyoming do
hereby proclaim May 28, 2009, to be
AZERBAIJAN NATIONAL DAY
in Wyoming.

USAN receives a Black January proclamation
from the Mayor of nation's capital, Washington D.C.
Washington D.C. - In response to the U.S. Azeris Network (USAN)'s Black January campaign and activism of its members, Mayor Adrian Fenty of Washington, D.C., extended formal recognition and official commemoration of the Black January 1990 tragedy. The proclamation is included below as well as attached with this press release. It will be available online at the USAN website's repository of all proclamations received by the Azerbaijani-American community. USAN thanks Mayor Fenty for issuing the proclamation, and the USAN members who took part in the campaign.

A PROCLAMATION BY THE MAYOR OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
WHEREAS, on January 20, 2010, Azerbaijani-Americans around the world will commemorate the 20th anniversary of Black January; and
WHEREAS, Azerbaijan was invaded on the night of January 19-20, 1990 and hundreds of Azerbaijanis were killed and wounded in a courageous resistance against their attackers; and
WHEREAS, today Azerbaijanis remember this tragic event as one of a series of events that later led to the independence of Azerbaijan:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, THE MAYOR OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, do hereby ask the residents of this great city to remember the victims of Black January.
