USAN ANNOUNCEMENT

HAPPY SOLIDARITY DAY AND NEW YEAR!

U.S. Azeris Network (USAN) extends its congratulations to all Azerbaijani-Americans on the occasion of World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day and New Year.  May the New 2010 Year turn all your wishes to reality and bring you joy, happiness, and prosperity!

The past 2009 will be remembered as another successful year full with new achievements, success stories, and recognitions for USAN (and USTN):

- First-ever Turkic-American and Azerbaijani-American organization to be recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau as their Official Partner;

- Over 100,000 emails, faxes and letters sent to elected officials around the country;

- Some 30 articles published in U.S. press;

- Recognized by POLITICO magazine, the #1 Congressional political newspaper, as the Azerbaijani-American nationwide grassroots advocacy organization that counters efforts by such Armenian lobby groups as Armenian Assembly of America (AAA);

- Co-sponsored and continued taking part in Turkic Festivals in Washington DC;

- Organized and successfully held its second conference in all-important Chicago, IL;

- Introduced the first-ever Azerbaijani financial instrument outside of Azerbaijan - the USAN Platinum VISA Credit Card (apply online -- http://creditcard.usazeris.org/ );

- Contributed to the establishment of United Kingdom Azeris Network (UKAN) that promotes the interests of our compatriots living in U.K.;

- Contributed to the growing interest for objective information about Azerbaijan and its Diaspora among graduate students, researchers, and journalists as USAN became actively involved in providing this information, that became part of research papers and news articles;

- Had the first-ever official proclamation by the Governor of Nevada commemorating the March 31 (Day of Genocide against Azerbaijanis) as the Azerbaijan Remembrance Day. Despite massive protests from the Armenian lobby, USAN and our community and friends were able to persuade the Governor's office to not rescind the proclamation (the historic proclamation is available at the USAN website for viewing);

- Signed a partnership agreement with such esteemed organizations as Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) - the oldest Asian-American organization founded in 1929; and

- Took active part in co-organizing fundraisers and online ad campaigns for political candidates.

As USAN moves forward to the New Year with new initiatives and planned activities, it will explore new opportunities in order to continue promoting the interests of our community, strengthen the position and voice of the Azerbaijani-Americans, and contribute to stronger strategic relations between the U.S. and Azerbaijan.

Happy Solidarity Day and New Year!
